FINALLY a kids music class that really ROCKS!
Music for Aardvarks and Other Mammals is a groovy alternative to the traditional music class for kids. It was created in 1997 by rock musician/composer and father of three David Weinstone. His original song collections, with influences of rock, the blues, ballads, folk, and pop, uniquely reflect and celebrate the lives of children today.
MFA classes can be found all over the country, and even in England and Japan! David's lively music is also used throughout
Nick Jr's daily programming.
Each of our informal, spirited classes feature a teacher accompanied by a back-up musician.
Classes are geared toward children 5 months to 5 years, and they incorporate rockin' music, small and large movement activities, dance breaks, and instrumental jam sessions. Our goal is to have fun, and we want you to have fun too! It's an interactive
musical experience you will love sharing with your child!
We have a simple philosophy. There is no "right" or "wrong" way for children to participate at such a young age. Whether watching or participating, children learn in ways that are right for them, at their own pace. We are not creating a love of sitting in a circle! Our goal is to create a love of music, play, feeling good about yourself, and having fun with the grown-up you're with and all the class members. We incorporate a lot of movement to engage the children's imaginations and to let them use their energy and enthusiasm in fun and exciting ways. By offering a stimulating musical environment, positive role models, and some gentle encouragement, we help them gain a sense of themselves and a connection to the world in which they live. Learning happens just by being present and engaging in the musical experience in ways that feel good to them in the moment. So, wear some comfortable clothes and come join in the fun!

Class types:
Mixed Age classes are for children 5 months to 5 years and are 45 minutes long. Classes are very interactive and are lead by a teacher and a back-up musician. We use lots of child-friendly instruments and props in class and we encourage participation from the children in whatever way they can. There is no right or wrong way for them to enjoy the music. We incorporate a lot of movement in class, so be ready for some big time fun with your little one! All children must attend with an actively participating grown-up.
Old Schoolers is a special class designed with the 3-4 year old child in mind. This class is for children who have been with us (or another Aardvarks program if you are just moving here) for at least 1 to 2 semesters (Aardvark veterans!) and they are ready for even more musical exploration and expression as a group. Children at this age can and want to contribute more to the class as they learn, grow and engage in singing, dancing, instrument playing, and large movement activities. Expect even more exciting musical fun as we let all of our imaginations soar! Children must attend with an actively participating adult. Parents who have asked us to add this kind of class, please keep in mind we are aware you may have younger siblings. While the class will be focused on the older children, we will be flexible and allow for some younger siblings if needed. Also keep in mind all 3-4 year old children are welcome and encouraged to join our Mixed Age classes if that is what works best with your schedule.
